Arrival at Hotel Les Grands Chenes
Relaxing.
We arrived at the beautiful and stately country manor in the afternoon with time for swimming and games before the evening dinner. It was a relaxing time. |
|
Dinner.
The evening buffet of French specialties was really great. It was outdoors in a beautiful country setting. And it was made all the more enjoyable with a wine tasting before our dinner. It does not get any better than this! |

Guédelon
|
French Market.
We began today at St. Fargeau's wonderful French weekly market were put together a perfect picnic lunch of bread, fruit and cheese for our visit to Guédelon. |
|
Guédelon.
Next, we had a very interesting visit to the construction site of Guédelon, where a full-size 13th-century castle is being built today. It is being built by people in traditional costumes using historically accurate tools as it would have been 800 years ago. We took part in a hands-on workshop learning the trade medieval stone cutters. We also had time to visit the blacksmith, masons, and rope-makers. |
|
More relaxing.
We returned from our visit to Guedelon and had some time to relax before our Medieval dinner. The kids took advantage of this time to swim. |
|
Medieval dinner.
After some relaxing time swimming, we enjoyed our medieval-themed dinner. We started off with lentil, bacon, gizzard salad with shallots and parsley served with rustic bread. Then came turnip, carrot and leek broth with spices, honey and prunes. Our main course was chicken leg in a spicy honey sauce. Finally, for dessert we had almond cake. And of course the wine flowed freely which freed up our dancing shoes. |
Tomorrow we leave France and make our way to Switzerland and our next home in the Alps, Wengen.
